Description Coin was minted between 388-392 AD at Lugdunum (Lyon) during the reign of Theodosius I, who ruled from 379-395 AD. Theodosius was the son of the famed Count Theodosius, who had cleared Britian of invaders during the reign of Valentinian I. the younger Theodosius soon proved that he had inherited all of his father's military talents, becoming one of the empire's foremost generals. After his accession, he rescued the Eastern provinces from the onslaught of the Goths, then turned his attention to the usurper Magnus Maximus. He defeated Maximus in 388, but was faced with the rebellion of Eugenius six years later. By his victory over the forces of Eugenius, Theodosius extended his rule over the whole of the empire, but died less than five months later, in January of 395, a victim of dropsy. The obverse of this type features the diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Theodosius facing right, with legends D.N.THEODOSIVS.P.F.AVG. The reverse features Roma seated left on throne, holding Victory and spear, with legends VRBS.ROMA., and mint/oficina mark LVGPS in the exergue. Coin shows an obverse flan flaw at K-1 of the obverse, but otherwise grades a nice VF, with clear to bold devices and legends all around, and attractive original colour. A nice example of this scarce silver type of Theodosius, catalouged as RSC 72 b. All coins guaranteed genuine without limitations. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds.
