Theodosius was the son of the famed Count Theodosius, who had cleared Britian of invaders during the reign of Valentinian I. the younger Theodosius soon proved that he had inherited all of his father's military talents, becoming one of the empire's foremost generals. After his accession, he rescued the Eastern provinces from the onslaught of the Goths, then turned his attention to the usurper Magnus Maximus. He defeated Maximus in 388, but was faced with the rebellion of Eugenius six years later. By his victory over the forces of Eugenius, Theodosius extended his rule over the whole of the empire, but died less than five months later, in January of 395, a victim of dropsy. The obverse of this type depicts the rosette-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Theodosius facing right, with legends D.N.THEODOSIVS.P.F.AVG. The reverse features Theodosius, nimbate, on horseback right, raising right hand, with legends GLORIA.ROMANORVM. The mint/oficina mark ANTA appears in the exergue. Coin shows a dusty green patina, and grades a nice VF, with bold devices and clear to bold devices all around. A very pleasing example of the type, catalouged as RIC-69b, and listed as scarce.
