Note: Images of Christ as the Good Shepherd and Daniel in the 
lion’s den were very beloved in early christianity and are preserved 
on numerous different kinds of objects, ranging from frescoes to oil 
lamps, gems and lead tesserae. Sometimes, the scenes of the Good 
Shepherd and Daniel are combined in one design, as both refer to 
God’s salvation of man.
