Roman Imperial, AE Follis, Heraclea mint Obverse: FL VAL SEVERVS NOB CAES; Laureate bust of Severus II right. Reverse: GENIO POPVLI ROMANI; Genius standing left holding patera and cornucopiae; HT(delta) in exergue. Condition: EF, Coin is better than picture. The actual coin has a bit more silvering and more detail than the picture. Very crisp strike on the legends. Coin is attractive for the issue with nice portraiture rather than some cruder design. It has surfaces of good metal with underlying silvering remaining, more so on the reverse. Centering is very good, reverse middle is somewhat softly struck as is usual for this issue. Nice hair detail on Severus' head, beard and moustache. All in all, an very nice example of this coin. Valuation: Why Valuation? Current price information is found in Van Meter Roman Imperial Coins, where it is valued at $101 to $300 in VF. See also CNG 47, lot 2000, where an EF was estimated at $150 and sold for $155 + 10 %. The obverse of that coin is slightly better and the reverse slightly worse than the coin at auction. Size: 9.59 grams; die axis = 0; flan 2.0 mm thick; 29.5 mm in diameter.
