Auction currency is U.S. dollars ($) unless otherwise noted. Description This piece was minted at Heraclea in the name of Severus II Caesar, who served under Galerius from 305-306 AD. He would be elevated to Augustus in 306, and was ordered to march on the usurper Maxentius, whose rebellion occurred in Severus' territory. When he did so, however, he was deserted by many of his soldiers, and fell into his opponents' hands. The unfortunate Augustus of the West was first imprisoned and then put to death. The obverse of this type depicts the laureate head of Severus II facing right, with legends FL.VAL.SEVERVS.NOBIL.CAES. The reverse features Genius standing left, holding cornucopiae and pouring libation from patera, with mint/oficina mark HTB in the exergue. Coin shows an obverse flan flaw that appears as a pit in the beard of Severus, but otherwise grades a choice Near Mint, with sharp devices and legends all around, lots of the original silvering still intact, and only the slightest traces of wear. A very choice example of the much scarcer coinage of Severus II, this piece is catalouged as RIC-25. All coins guaranteed genuine without limitations. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. Visa/MC now accepted for purchases over $20. Member ANA, PAN.
