Description This piece was minted for Thrace, Anchialus during the reign of Septimius Severus, who ruled from 193-211 AD. Septimius Severus was one of three provincial governors who answered the call of an outraged public to oust the shamefully elected Didius Julianus, who literally had bought the throne in an auction. He was first to arrive in Rome, and easily dispensed with the deserted Julianus, who was beheaded in his palace. He then dealt with the forces of the other two governors, and became master of the Roman world. The obverse of this type depicts the laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus facing right, with Greek legends for A.K.SEPTI.SEVEROS.PER. The reverse type features Homonia (Concord) standing left, holding patera and sceptre, with Greek legends for OVLPIANON.AGKALEON. Coin shows light surface granularity, but otherwise grades a nice F+, with reddish patina. A nice example of this provincial type! All coins guaranteed genuine without limitations. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. MC/Visa accepted for orders of $20 or more. Member ANA, PAN.
