RIC257 (Rarity2) // Cohen108,9 // Foss65 Struck to celebrate the Secular Games, with sacrifices and a public donative. Bacchus and Hercules were patron gods of Septimius and were particularly honored as seen on this very rare coin. The sacrifices took place on the second night of the festival on the banks of the Tiber and honored the goddess of birth and Tellus. Most spectacular of the events included a ship filled with wild beats in the arena.
