A general of Julian II, Procopius took part in the ill-fated expedition against the Persians that would claim Julian's life, and it was Procopius who bore the corpse of Julian to Tarsus for burial. In September, 365, while Valens was on his way to Syria, Procopius led a rebellion at Constantinople, and was proclaimed emperor. After scoring some initial successes, the forces of Procopius were defeated by Valens, and Procopius was later put to death. The obverse of this type depicts the diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Procopius facing left, with legends D.N.PROCOPIVS.P.F.AVG. The reverse features Procopius standing facing, head right, holding labarum and leaning on shield, with a Christogram in the upper right field. The legends read REPARATIO.FEL.TEMP., and the mint/oficina mark CONSZ appears in the exergue. This piece shows some light surface granularity, but otherwise grades AVF, with clear devices and legends all around. A nice example of the rare coinage of Procopius! All coins guaranteed genuine without limitations. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax.
