Description Barry & Darling Ancient Coins http://www.bitsofhistory.com click for a larger image [Image] Poppaea (wife of Nero) AE24 Thrace, Perinthus 62 - 65 AD Sear 670 Her diademed, draped bust right. Head-dress of Isis within olive wreath. F/aVF - slight surface rougness, odd toning. Poppaea was the wife of emperor Nero, marrying him in 62 AD. His love for her did not keep him from kicking her to death during one of his rages in 65 AD. She was pregnant at the time with Nero's heir. History records that he deeply regreted the 'accident'. This one of her rare portrait coins and, despite the odd toning, displays very good detail. GOOD LUCK! Click here to view our other auction listings. Have a Question?
