Philip II was made Caesar on his father's accession, and would perish along with his father while battling the rebel forces of Trajan Decius at Verona in 249 AD. The signature event of the reign of the two Philips was the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of the city of Rome. This piece commemorates that event. The obverse of this type depicts the radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip II facing right, with legends IMP.PHILIPPVS.AVG. The reverse features a goat walking left, with legends SAECVLARES.AVGG., and III in the exergue. Coin grades a choice Near EF, with clear to bold devices and legends where struck up, and attractive original colour. A very pleasing example of this scarce historical type, catalouged as RSC-72. All coins guaranteed genuine without limitations. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. Visa/MC now accepted for purchases over $20. Member ANA, PAN. Thanks! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [Image] Bidding Bidding is closed for this item.
