Philip II Augustus at 10 yrs. old, dead at 12 yrs MARCVS IVLIVS PHILIPPVS was born in 237 to Marcia Otacilia Severa and the future Emperor Philip I. In 244 his father was serving as Praetorian Praefect under Gordian III in the Sassanian campaign when Gordian mysteriously died on February 25. Philip I was named Augustus and he received the title of Caesar. In 247 Philip II became Augustus upon his father's return from a Danubian campaign. In 248 he and his father presided over the 1,000th anniversary of Rome. A Danubian revolt in 249 led to his father's death at Verona in August, 249, and Philip II was soon killed in Rome by the Praetorian Guard. Obv: M.IVL.PHILIPPVS CAES. Rad. bust right.
