PHILIP I, AD 244-249 339.Silver Antoninianus, S-2564. Obverse : Bust of Philip right with "IMP C M IVL PHILIPPVS P F AVG" around. Reverse : Pax standing left holding a sceptre and branch, with "PAX FVNDATA CVM PERSIS" around. The reverse is somewhat weakly struck. 20.8 x 23.2 mm. 3.55 grams. ...... gVF/aVF This type commemorates the Peace established with the Sassanids (the Romans called them Persians) in AD 244. This was a negotiated peace rather than a Victory, as shown by the slightly unusual reverse inscription. This was alway a relatively scarce type but in recent years the Balkan hoards have made it slightly more common. Most specimens we have seen were weakly struck on the reverse.
