MARCIA OTAC-ILIA SEVERA AVG, draped bust right on crescent, wearing stephane / CONCORDIA AVGVSTI, Philip I and Otacilia clasping hands: Philip standing right, laureate, togate, holding roll in left hand; Otacilia standing left, draped and veiled, holding slanting scepter in left hand. Cf. P. Crinon, BSFN September 1993, pp. 615-617 (same reverse die, but abbreviated obverse legend). Unpublished variant. Unique: only the second recorded coin with this reverse type, and the first to couple this type with the long obverse legend marking the mint's first issue. Extremely fine This eastern mint employed a long form of the obverse legend for its initial issue, then promptly replaced it with the abbreviated legend MARC OTACI SEVERA AVG. The present coin is only the second recorded antoninianus of Otacilia with the long form of the legend (the other has the reverse type PIETAS AVG N). Philip II is not represented in the mint's inaugural issue, indicating that it was struck before he was proclaimed Caesar, thus between Philip's accession ca.
