In 308, Galerius, then the senior co-Emperor, demoted Constantine from Augustus to Caesar, but did not raise Daia from Caesar to Augustus. Worse still, Galerius promoted his friend Licinius to Augustus, even though Licinius had never held the title of Caesar. This did not sit well with Daia, even though to placate him and Constantine, Galerius invented an empty title (FILII AUGUSTORUM, Sons of the Augusti) for them. Daia was finally made co-Emperor in 310, but deposed by Licinius in 313.
