Maximinus I, Æ as, (11.90g) MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG GERM Laureate, draped and
cuirassed bust right. / VICTORIA GERMANIA Emperor standing right, captive
kneeling at his feet, Victory standing behind him, crowning him, SC in
exergue. RIC 94. VF/F, the reverse porous, heavy flan.

While the weight of this coin is quite heavy for an as, the laureate head
indicates that an as was intended. The last official laureate head dupondii
were issued under Hadrian. If this coin has yellow (not red) metal under
the patina, it is a new variety.
