TC: Rare Maximinus coin with early portrait


MAXIMINUS I . 235-238 AD. Silver Denarius (21mm), issue of c. April, A.D.
235 (3.21 gm). O: Portrait of Maximinus resembling that of Severus
Alexander. R: Providence standing, l.. cf. RIC. 13. This coin features an
unusual early portrait of Maximinus that resembles that of Severus
Alexander; apparently the die engravers did not yet know what the new
Emperor looked like. Rare and nearly EF.
