Currency is U.S. dollars (US$) unless otherwise noted. Description Coin was minted between 167 and 168 AD, during the reign of Marcus Aurelius, who ruled from 161-180. The reign of Aurelius was troubled by many frontier wars, and by a devestating plague that was brought back by soldiers returning from the Parthian war. He is perhaps best known for his Stoic philosophy, and as the author of "The Meditations", which Aurelius wrote while campaigning against the Germans. The obverse of this type depicts the laureate head of Aurelius facing right, with legends M.ANTONINVS.AVG.ARM.PARTH.MAX. The reverse features Providentia standing left, holding sceptre and wand over globe, with legends TR.P.XXI.IMP.IIII.COS.III. Coin shows light hairlines, but otherwise grades a nice AVF, with clear devices and legends all around, and a nice portrait. A pleasing example of the type, catalouged as RSC-881. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. Visa/MC accepted for purchases of $20 or more.
