Fine Ex Garrett Collection (Leu/NFA Garrett Sale III, 29 March 1985, lot 431, part). This is the rarest reverse type of the rare sestertii of Marciana, almost never obtainable by a private collector. Strack 445 lists five specimens in museums, one of which (illustrated by Bernhart, Handbuch, pl. 53, 11) is from the same reverse die as the present example. The BM specimen is said to be "probably false," and there are no specimens in Glasgow or in the rich private collections of Mazzini, Vierordt, Trau, Hall, Ryan, Steinberg, Friedrich, or Benz.
