Lucius Verus Denarius. Obv:– IMP L AVREL VERVS AVG, Laureate head with drapery or fold of cloak on shoulder Rev:– CONCORD AVG TR P / COS II, Concordia seated left holding patera Minted in Rome. A.D. 161 Unlisted in RIC and RSC with this bust type. Bust type "Head with drapery or fold of cloak on shoulder" usually means a fold on the far shoulder, sometimes with clasp, and a line of drapery behind neck that does not overlap with the bust and is sometimes entirely omitted. On this coin the drapery curls around the neck and covers part of the emperor's back. This type occurs on some coins under Pius, seems standard in Marcus' reign, but I think disappears or becomes rare from Commodus on. Contributed by Martin Griffiths, April, 2005.
