Description This piece was minted in the name of Lucilla, who was the wife of Lucius Verus, who ruled between 161 and 169 AD. She was married to Verus in 164 AD, and after his death in 169, she was married to Pompeianus, a man of comparatively humble origin. In 182, she was involved in a plot against her brother, Commodus, and was banished to Capreae and put to death soon afterwards. The obverse of this type depicts the draped bust of Lucilla facing right, with legends LVCILLAE.AVG.ANTONINI.AVG.F. The reverse features Vesta standing left, sacrificing out of simpulum over lighted altar and holding palladium. The legends read VESTA. Coin is struck on a slightly irregular flan, but otherwise grades AVF, with clear to bold devices and most legends clear. A nice example of the type, catalouged as RSC-92. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. MC/Visa accepted for orders of $20 or more.
