Julian II, AE 17-18mm, Nicomedia. DN IVLIANVS-NOB CAESAR, bare-headed, draped, cuirassed bust right. FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO, soldier standing left, spearing fallen horseman who is bare-headed, hair straight up, bearded, reaching backwards. M in left field. Mintmark (SM)N epsilon RIC VIII Nicomedia 111 var (headwear of horseman) Contributed by Russ Stanley, April 2011. Note: The "hair straight up" types of all three emperors and Caesars is not mentioned in RIC who describes almost all Nicomedia Fel Temp issues as either "Bare headed" (where the hair is back from the forehead but flat on the top and sides, rather like a Beatles cut without the fringe) or "pointed cap", which is actually a Phrygian helmet. This "hair straight-up" type is almost only seen on coins of Nicomedia, so Johnny Rotten was over 1,600 years late with his hair style :-)
