               JULIAN II, 360-63. AR siliqua of Arelate, aEF

          OBV: Bearded diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right.

                     REV: VOT//MVLT/XX within wreath.

                    RARE! Nicely toned. RIC 159. C 148.

      JULIAN II--Flavius Claudius Julianus. Emperor 361-363. Known as
        Julian The Apostate because of his paganism and aversion to
     Christianity. Well educated. A devotee, like so many late pagans,
          of various cults and schools, including Neoplatonism and
        Mithraism, he wasted much effort in trying to revive defunct
        practive. He was the brother of Julius Constantius who was a
      holf-brother of Constantine The Great. Proclaimed emperor by his
           troops in a revolt against the latter. At the death of
     Constantius he became sole ruler. He was killed during one of his
      battles with the Persians. He was 32 years of age at hs death.
