Description FLAN> Julia Domna denarius - MATRI DEUM ------------------------------------------------------------- Flavian Logic Ancient Numismatics ------------------------------------------------------------- Julia Domna, died 217 CE, AR denarius, 18-19mm Obverse : IULIA PIA FELIX AUG. - draped bust right. Reverse : MATRI DEUM - Cybelle towered stg.half left, leaning on column, legs crossed, holding drum and scpter, lion at feet. Grade EF/aVF. Well centered, well struck and detailed portrait. Reverse struck with partially worn die, but still attractive. I just love this obverse legend "the lucky mother of Caracalla" - no wonder she starved herself to death! This coin has been cleaned with lemon juice, distilled water and a cotton swab - turned out well. Ref. RSC 137 scarce There is no reserve on this coin.
