Description This piece is an AE Chalkon, or 1/8 obol. It measures 11 mm in diameter, and was minted for Roman Egypt between 125 and 126 AD, during the reign of Hadrian, who ruled from 117-138 AD. Hadrian is famed as the emperor who built Hadrian's Wall, the massive fortification erected across the northernmost British frontier of the empire to defend against marauding Scots and Picts. He is also known for his extensive travels throughout the empire. The obverse of this type depicts the laureate head of Hadrian facing right, with I before. The reverse type features an upright cornucopiae, with regnal year L Delta E, denoting this piece as being minted in Year 10 of the reign of Hadrian. Coin shows a little patina, but otherwise grades a nice VF for the type, with clear devices and date. A very nice example of this scarce denomination of Hadrian, this piece is catalouged as D-1913bis. All coins guaranteed genuine without limitations. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. Visa/MC now accepted for purchases over $20. Member ANA, PAN.
