            Gordian III. (238-244 AD). Silver antoninianus (4.02 gm). Antioch, 
            ca. 239 AD. IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG, bust radiate, draped, 
            cuirassed right / PAX AVGVSTI, Pax standing left, holding wreath and 
            transverse scepter. Unusual type variant, Pax holds the wreath of 
            Victory rather than her own normal branch. Bland 23/2 (this coin). 
            Not in RIC or Cohen. Very rare: only this specimen and one other 
            from the same dies (Creil hoard) known to Bland. Very fine.

            April 1988, lot 771.
