Comprising (a) Silver antoninianus, 5.54 gm, Antioch, ca. 239 AD, IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG, bust radiate, draped, cuirassed right / CONCORDIA AVG, Concordia standing left, holding patera and cornucopia, no altar at her feet. Apparently the only specimen known without the altar at Concordia’s feet; not in Bland, RIC, or Cohen. (b) Another similar coin, 4.38 gm, with the normal altar at Concordia’s feet, but with two branches protruding from the altar, a variant not in the standard catalogues, perhaps the only specimen known. As Bland 9 (6 specimens), RIC 178a, and Cohen 58, but with branches on the altar. TWO COINS IN LOT. Extremely fine.
