            The Last Denarius
            Gordian was the last emperor to issue the Denarius for mass 
            circulation in the Roman Empire. This coin was one of a special 
            issue of six denarii struck marking the marriage of Gordian III to 
            Sabinia Tranquillina in the summer of 240. These wedding issues were 
            the last series of Denarii struck by Gordian 

            Obv: IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG ; Laureate bust right, draped and 
            cuirassed. 
            Rev: PIETAS AVGVSTI - Pietas standing front with head turned left; 
            both arms held out with palms facing.
