IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev. IOVI CONSERVATORI, Jupiter standing half-left, holding scepter and thunderbolt, small figure of Gordian before standing left. The coin is of bright metal. Legends are full, with some reverse letters a little weak The reverse image is decent, a little weak, but little, if any, actual wear. The portrait is very nice. Gordian III was the grandson and nephew, respectively, of the emperors Gordian I and Gordian II. He came the throne at about age 13, and was killed at age 19 by soldiers carrying out the wishes of the future emperor Philip I.
