RIC IV 8; BMCRE 31; Cohen 15. Near VF, green patina. Rare. Estimate $750. Ex Classical Numismatic Auctions XX (25 March 1992), lot 824 (attributed as Gordian I)! The distinguishing feature between coins of Gordian I and Gordian II (since the obverse legends are the same on the coinage of both emperors) is that the latter has a receding hair line and is always portrayed bald in front of his laurel wreath. This coin was catalogued in one of our previous auctions as a coin of Gordian I which, considering that the hair-line is completely worn and the fact that both emperors struck this reverse type, was an easily made error.
