Nice VF, popular type! RCV 1820, RIC 57, BMC 93, (15.2 gm.). Germanicus was a legendary Roman hero, who died at the age of 34. He was the eldest son of Nero Claudius Drusus, (only 6 when his father died) and Antonia (daughter of Mark Antony and Octavia), and elder brother to Claudius. Like his late father before him, Germanicus seemed destined for greatness after successes on the battlefield in Germany. He was 19 when he was adopted by Tiberius, as future heir and successor. He then married Agrippina Senior (the daughter of Agrippa, and grand-daughter of Augustus) and among their nine children was Gaius, better known to us today as Caligula. Germanicus was also the father of Julia Agrippina (known as Agrippina Junior), who, later married Claudius, and saw her son, Nero, replace him on the throne (perhaps with her murderous assistance).
