ROMAN EMPIRE. Diva Faustina I and Galerius Antoninus. 
Bronze 27 mm (12.67 gm). QEA FAYC-TEINA, veiled, draped 
bust of Faustina right / M GALEPIOC ANTWNINOC 
AYTOKPATOPOC ANTWNINOY YIOC, bare-headed, draped bust of 
Galerius Antoninus right. Cohen 2 (150 Fr.). Dark brown 
patina. Very fine 

This bronze displays the only surviving portrait of 
Antoninus Pius' son Galerius Antoninus, who died before 
Pius came to power and whose epitaph from Hadrian's 
Mausoleum has come down to us (CIL VI 989). The fine 
style of this provincial issue suggests that the dies 
used must have been cut by engravers of the mint of 
Rome.
