Faustina I and Galerius Antoninus AE28 of Cyprus. 11.13g. Uncertain mint, circa AD 140. QEA FAYCTEINA, draped bust of Diva Faustina right. M GALERIOC ANTONINOC AYTOKRATOROC ANTONINOY YIOC, bare-headed, draped bust of Galerius Antoninus right. Vagi 1517; Niggler 3, 1316; Lindgren III 940; Cohen 2. Very Fine. Very Rare. Cyprus, Crete and an uncertain city in Asia Minor have all been suggested as possible mint locations for this extraordinary issue, but the style and fabric seem Roman. Galerius Antoninus (died ca 137 AD) was one of two sons, both of whom died while still very young, of Antoninus Pius and Faustina Senior. It has the striking of this coin celebrated the birth of their first son as well as serving as a memorial to her brother on the tenth anniversary of his death.
