Description This piece was minted for Roman Egypt during the short reign of Galba, who ruled from 68-69 AD. Galba was proclaimed emperor by the troops in the wake of the disturbances preceding the death of Nero. He was also confirmed by the Senate, but his strict discipline and rigid economies made him very unpopular, and Galba would be assassinated in the Forum on January 15, 69 AD, the result of a conspiracy organized by Otho. The obverse of this type features the laureate head of Galba facing right, with Greek legends for SER.OVI.GALBA.AVTO.KAIS.SEBA., and the regan year LB in the field at right. The reverse type features Eleutheria standing left, holding wreath and sceptre, elbow on column, simpulum at left. The Greek legend for ELEV THERIA also appears. Coin shows porous surfaces with some dark patina, but otherwise grades VG, with major devices and partial legends clearly visible, including a clear name. A decent and affordable example of this scarce Egyptian type, catalouged as Milne 341. All coins guaranteed genuine without limitations. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. Visa/MC now accepted for purchases over $20. Member ANA, PAN.
