Draped bust right / Aeternitas standing left, holding globe and scepter. RIC III 350a (Antoninus); RSC 34. Good VF, light scratch on obverse. 715019. Later Roman historians chided Faustina Senior for an allegedly frivolous nature, in contrast with the grave dignity of her husband Antoninus. However, it was common practice for Roman historians to ennoble great men by deriding the character of their wives. Antoninus, in any case, seems to have greatly loved and sincerely mourned his wife, whom he deified after her death in 141 AD, and honored her with the most extensive coinage yet seen for a Roman Empress.
