                         ELAGABALUS: A.D. 218 - 222

  M. Aurelius Antoninus was born at Emesa about A.D. 205, the grandson of
     Julia Maesa. In his boyhood he was appointed priest of the Sun-God
   Elagabalus, hence the name, and was proclaimed emperor on May 16, 218.
  His grandmother was the instigator of a rebellion by spreading the rumor
    that Elagabalus was the son of Caracalla. Elagabalus and his mother,
               Julia Soaemias, were murdered on March 6, 222.

                           Type Coin: AR Denarius
                                 Grade: VF+

                   Obverse: IMP ANTONINVS AVG, bust right

   Reverse: ANNONA AVGVSTI, Annona standing left, holding grain ears and
                   rudder on globe, a modius at her feet.
