Description This piece was minted in 79 AD in the name of Domitian Caesar, who served under his father Vespasian from 69-79, and under his brother Titus from 79-81 AD. He later ruled as Augustus from 81-96 AD. Domitian initially showed great promise, but was unpopular with the Senatorial nobility, and this resulted in numerous plots and conspiracies. These only served to inflame Domitian's already suspicious nature, and his last years were a time of terror and oppression. He was murdered in 96 AD, in a plot in which his own wife is said to have taken part. The obverse of this type depicts the laureate head of Domitian facing right, with legends CAESAR.AVG.F.DOMITIANVS.COS.VI. The reverse type features clasped hands holding a legionary eagle on prow, with legends PRINCEPS.IVVENTVTIS. Coin is struck off center on the obverse, but otherwise grades F, with mostly clear devices and legends where struck up. A decent and affordable example of this scarcer type, catalouged as RSC-393. All coins guaranteed genuine without limitations. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. Visa/MC now accepted for purchases over $20. Member ANA, PAN. Thanks! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [Image] Bidding Bidding is closed for this item.
