                  Domitia Lucilla, mother of Marcus Aurelius, Æ29, (16.58g) 
                  Nicaea, Bithynia, struck c. 150 AD, 7:00 die axis, DOMITIA 
                  LOYKI LLAN [NEIKAIEIC] Draped bust of Domitia Lucilla right, 
                  hair bound in an elaborate Antonine coif. / M AYP[HLI]OC 
                  OYHPOC KAICAP Bare-headed Marcus Aurelius on horseback right, 
                  with long caduceus and trailing cloak. RG p. 414,122, plate 
                  LXIX #22 (same dies), Cohen p. 134, 1, line drawing (400 
                  Francs!) VF, dark tone with subdued brassy highlights, areas 
                  of porosity and pitting on the fields.

                  The second and finest-known coin of this woman, who was the 
                  birth-mother of Marcus Aurelius. The other (previously unique) 
                  example is in a Paris museum. It had been called into question 
                  in a 1989 article as an alteration from a similar coin of 
                  Pius. Several other coins in RG are fake. This coin shows that 
                  the Domitia Lucilla coin in Paris is genuine. Neither this nor 
                  the Paris coin shows signs of tooling. Important.
