Unlisted in BMC, Cop, Von Aulock. aVF. This massive piece belongs to the second century
    series of medallions commemorating alliances between various
    Greek cities of Asia Minor. Here: Thyatiera with 
an unknown city. Such
    medallions are very rare. Another example of this type was in the
    famous Mabbott sale of 1968 and, although not as nice as the
    present example, was estimated at $500 
Decent near-black surfaces and a stable pit at 7 o’clock
    on the reverse. An attractive, impressive and very rare piece.
