Struck in the year of imperial transition and civil war at Rome, this Bosporan stater of Sauromates bears an imperial portrait not recognizable as Commodus, either Pertinax or Didius Julianus, or possibly Septimius Severus, all of whom ruled at some point during the year BE 489.
