                        SYRIA, Antioch: Commodus, as Caesar. AD 176-177. AR 
                        tetradrachm (14.15 gm).

                        ROMAN EMPIRE. Commodus, as Caesar (AD 167-177). Silver 
                        tetradrachm (14.15 gm). Antiochia ad Orontem, Seleucis 
                        and Pieria, AD 175-176. KOMMODW KAI CEB VIW, bare head 
                        left resting on small eagle / GEPMAN[IK] CAPMAT, Tyche 
                        of Antioch, turreted and veiled, seated right on rocks, 
                        holding two wheat ears, river god Orontes swimming right 
                        at her feet, above her head ram right, looking back. 
                        Prieur 167 (same obverse die). Extremely rare: only four 
                        examples listed by Prieur. Doublestruck on reverse, 
                        otherwise extremely fine with a beautiful youthful 
                        portrait 

                        This tetradrachm was issued in connection with Marcus 
                        and Commodus' trip to the east to suppress the revolt of 
                        Avidius Cassius in 175-176.
