right, draped and cuirassed / PR-INC IVVENT, S-C across  [Image]
fields, Commodus standing left, holding branch in right
hand and spear in left hand; trophy behind. RIC III 1518 var. (cuirass); BMCRE
518; Szaivert 309-17/17; Cohen 610. VF, dark green patina, light porosity,
removed reverse laminations. Very Rare. Estimate $1500.

History: According to Szaivert, this sestertius is from the first issue of
coinage of Commodus as Caesar. Although RIC 1513-1515 appear to predate this
issue, 1513 is not in the British Museum, and 1514 and 1515 are actually
medallions, not regular coinage.
