Claudius II, AE antoninianus, Rome mint. IMP CLAVDIVS AVG, radiate, cuirassed bust right PAX AVGVSTI, Pax standing left, holding olive branch and transverse sceptre. A in left field. RIC V-1, 81 Rome var (bust type), Cohen 204 var (same). Rare, unpublished bust type. RIC lists this coin (PAX AVGVSTI as opposed to simply PAX AVG) only with radiate and draped, or radiate head only. This coin is clearly radiate and cuirassed. Absolutely no doubt that this is from the Rome mint. This reverse legend and bust type, albeit without field mark is known only as an ancient imitation under Normanby hoard 1794. Contributed by Pete Clegg (biffabacon10), Aug, 2010
