Nearly extremely fine Ex Polak Collection (MMAG, 1962, lot 536). Hadrian refounded the ruined city of Jerusalem as Aelia Capitolina during his visit to Judaea in 130 AD. Jews were forbidden to enter the city, which was to provide a home for retired legionaries. The foundation of Aelia Capitolina was one of the chief causes of the Bar Kochba Revolt.
