Fine, dark brown patina, pitting. Rare. Estimate $150. In her article in ANSMN 27, Anne Johnston states that "a third Neocorate was granted probably circa 211-212 for Caracalla and Geta, though it was diverted to Artemis by Caracalla after Geta's murder." Both portraits being laureate, this coin had to have been issued 209-212 when Caracalla and Geta shared imperial authority and which coincides with the establishment of the new neocorate. Additionally, the legend identifying the brothers as the 'New Suns' would be appropriate for a coin issued for such an important occasion.
