Jupiter, cloak over extended arm, holding thunderbolt and staff,
eagle before. RSC 278; RIC 259. Near EF, extremely heavy flan,
nice metal.

The heaviest Severan denarius the cataloger has seen. This issue
is dated a year before the introduction of the antoninianus. It
seems conceivable that a blank for an antoninianus was struck
with denarius dies. Once placed in circulation, it was soon
hoarded, which accounts for its excellent preservation.
