He ruled the Eastern division of the empire from 383-408 AD, although the real power was in the hands of a succession of stronger personalities around him, including his wife Eudoxia. He died in 408 AD and was succeeded by his son Theodosius II. The obverse of this type depicts the pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Arcadius facing right, with legends D.N.ARCADIVS.P.F.AVG. The reverse features a camp gate with two turrets, with legends GLORIA.REIPVBLICAE., and mint/oficina marks Gamma TES. Coin is struck on an irregularly shaped flan, and shows some earthen patina, but otherwise grades AVF for the type, with clear to bold devices and legends where struck up.
