Description

     This piece was minted for Roman Egypt between 153 and 154 AD,
     during the reign of Antoninus Pius, who ruled from 138-161 AD.
     The reign of Antoninus is a virtual blank in the history books,
     owing to the stability and prosperity that Rome enjoyed during
     these years. He was the personification of Rome's golden age,
     which reached its zenith under his rule. The obverse of this type
     depicts the laureate head of Antoninus facing right, with Greek
     legends for AVT.K.T.AIL.ADR.ANTONINOS.SEB.EVS. The reverse
     features a serpent with the head of Serapis standing erect right,
     with regnal year LIZ in the fields. This denotes that the piece
     was minted during Year 17 of the reign of Antoninus Pius. Coin
     shows a granular green patina, but otherwise grades F/AF, with
     clear devices and more than half of the legends visible. A decent
     and affordable example of the type, catalouged as Milne 2245. All
     coins guaranteed genuine without restrictions. Member ANA, PAN.
