Description This piece was minted for Roman Egypt between 139 and 140 AD, during the reign of Antoninus Pius, who ruled from 138-161 AD. The reign of Antoninus is a virtual blank in the history books, owing to the stability and prosperity that Rome enjoyed during these years. He was the personification of Rome's golden age, which reached its zenith under his rule. The obverse of this type depicts the bare head of Antoninus facing right, with Greek legends for AVT.K.T.AIL.ADR.ANTONINOS. The reverse type features Eirene (Pax) standing left, holding corn and caduceus, with regnal year L.TPITOY, which denotes that this piece was minted in Year Three of the reign of Antoninus Pius. Coin shows granular surfaces, as is often found on Alexandrian issues, but otherwise grades Good F, with very clear devices and most legends visible. A nice example of the type, catalouged as Milne 1638. All coins guaranteed genuine without limitations. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. MC/Visa accepted for orders of $20 or more. Member ANA, PAN. For more ancients, please visit our WWW site at http://www.philly.infi.net/~mdgeary/ .
