                              Laureate head right / Derceto-Astarte standing 
                              left, crescent on forehead, holding dove and 
                              sceptre; triton with conucopiae at feet, date to 
                              right. Rosenberger I 178; Hendin 829; cf. SNG ANS 
                              723 (date). VF, desert patina. ($500)

                              The triton and dove here suggest the main figure 
                              is Derceto, a Phoenician fertility goddess with 
                              associations to both Astarte and Aphrodite, 
                              indicating a continued syncretism existed well 
                              into the imperial period.
