Description This piece was minted between 152 and 153 AD, during the reign of Antoninus Pius, who ruled from 138-161 AD. The reign of Antoninus is a virtual blank in the history books, owing to the stability and prosperity that Rome enjoyed during these years. He was the personification of Rome's golden age, which reached its zenith under his rule. The obverse of this piece depicts the laureate head of Antoninus facing right, with legends ANTONINVS.AVG.PIVS.P.P.TR.P.XVI. The reverse features Fortuna standing right, holding rudder on globe and cornucopiae, with legend COS.IIII. Coin grades a nice VF, with bold devices and legends all around, a bold attractive portrait, and even a bit of the original lustre still evident. A very nice example of the type, catalouged as RSC-270. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. MC/Visa accepted for orders of $20 or more. For more ancients, please visit our WWW site at http://www.philly.infi.net/~mdgeary/ .
